Athletics
Surry Elementary is proud to offer a variety of sports to our middle school students. Athletics are open for all students in grades 5-8, with some exceptions for grade 4. Student-athletes are expected to maintain good academic performance, attendance and meet behavioral expectations in order to participate. Please reference the policy and eligibilities above for more information.

Student-athletes are required to have health insurance and complete a permission to participate form, linked above. They are also required to have an annual sports physical on file with the school.
FALL: Cross Country and Soccer
WINTER: Basketball
SPRING: Baseball and Softball

We host an open house night for back to school where Surry Athletics will be represented. In the Spring, we host a Sports Banquet to celebrate all of our athletes and their participation.
Equipment
While a majority of the necessary equipment is provided for each team, players are responsible for several of their own pieces of equipment for each sport.

Student-athletes will need to provide the following:
Cross Country - running shoes
Soccer - cleats and shin guards
Basketball - basketball shoes
Softball and Baseball - glove, cleats, cup (for boys), face shield (for girls)

If you bring personal gear, please make sure your name is written on that equipment and that you are keeping track of it. Be sure to check regulations for bat restrictions for baseball and softball. Please also check to make sure cleats meet the requirements for play.

Need gear or equipment? Ask! We may have extras.
Have gear or equipment you no longer use? Donate it to the school or Surry Rec for someone else to use.
Sports Photos
During each sports season, Surry School teams up with the Surry Sharks to host team photo sessions. Photos will be announced and are done by a professional photographer. Ordering of photos is entirely optional, however we ask that all players participate so that team photos are complete.

Extracurricular Clubs
Student Council
Student Council is new this year, and we’re already making an impact! We’re a small but dedicated group of middle school students (grades 6-8) focused on boosting school spirit and supporting both students and staff.

We meet once a week for 15 minutes to plan fun, inclusive activities that bring our school community together. So far, we’ve organized a door decorating contest, launched “Thunder Thursday” (music during middle school lunch), shared school-wide kindness notes, and created an all-school interest survey.

As the voice of our student body, we value your ideas and feedback. We’d love to hear from you!
Garden Club
SES offers two sessions for garden club; one in the fall and another in the spring. Students stay after school, from 2:45 PM to 4:00 PM, to learn about soil development, native plants, floral and edible gardening. Flyers go home ahead of the sessions to sign up. Sign-ups are open to students in grades 4-8.
Lego Robotics
This year, for the first time in over 20 years, Surry Elementary has a robotics team! We've been working on our robots since November with the goal of competing in the Maine Robotics meet at Brewer High School on May 2. Participants have looked at the Maine Robotics requirements and are building robots that will complete tasks as outlined by the rules of Maine Robotics. If you want to learn more about the rules of Maine Robotics, follow this link: https://www.robottrackmeets.org/
Surry Recreational Committee
Too young to play school sports?
The Town of Surry Recreational Committee offers a variety of youth programs, for all Surry residents ages 4-14. You can follow them on Facebook for up-to-date programs, signs ups, schedules, and more.

Offerings: Fall Soccer, Indoor Soccer, Basketball, Tee Ball, Baseball and Softball

The Surry Sharks are a great way to learn the basics of the sports, while having a lot of fun with friends!
